CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., March 7, 2024 – Astec is excited to showcase the RX-405 cold planer at the World of Asphalt/AGG1 2024 event, March 25-27, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee, which will include the premier of its premium camera system capable of providing a bird’s eye view of the entire machine from the operator console.

First debuted at ConExpo 2023, the RX-405 cold planer is set to redefine industry standards with its versatile capabilities. Equipped with a mid-mount variable cutter system (VCS), this machine offers optimized versatility with cut widths ranging from 2 to 5 feet, achieving a maximum cut depth of 14 inches. Powered by a Tier 3 or Stage 5 Cummins QSL-9 engine rated at an impressive 430 hp, the RX-405 ensures optimal performance and productivity on every job site.

“This product went through a rigorous and robust new product development process where we listened to what the market wanted in a product offering and designed a durable, versatile, and productive product,” says Tom Lenger, Product Manager for Road Recycling Equipment at Astec. “We then tested it in all conditions and applications to ensure we delivered a reliable, high performing product to the market. We ensured maximum versatility with a quick-change drum system, where it only takes about 30 minutes to swap drums. This allows customers to complete multiple jobs throughout a work day.”

One of the standout features of the RX-405 is its innovative design, including a secondary conveyor that can swing 60 degrees on each side, providing a full conveyor swing of 120 degrees. This, coupled with a 750-gallon water tank – the largest in its class – ensures limited interruption and maximum efficiency even in the most demanding environments.

With a focus on user experience, Astec has updated the ergonomics and appearance of the controls to improve operator comfort and usability. Additionally, a new operator environmental awareness system will make its debut at the show. Set to be available on the RX-405 and all milling machines in Q4 of 2024, this real time view of the machine from above will enhance safety and visibility to obstructions, thereby boosting productivity.

In addition to this cutting-edge technology, the RX-405 offers a range of other customizable options to suit the diverse needs of contractors and rental agencies. Options include a 24V LED night light package, Guardian telematics, auto lubrication system, rear object detection system, vacuum dust extraction kit, and more.

"This machine is ideal for dealers looking to expand their rental offerings and contractors seeking a cost-effective solution for road building, trenching, and shoulder work," says Lenger. "With its unmatched horsepower, innovative design features, and superior performance, the RX-405 is poised to offer a high performing, ergonomic and versatile offering to the commercial milling market.”

Astec invites attendees of World of Asphalt 2024 to visit booth #1263 to experience the future of milling technology firsthand. Don't miss this opportunity to see the RX-405 up close and discover how Astec is paving the way to a more efficient and sustainable future.
