3rd district congressman Zach Wamp paid a visit to Astec Industries,
Inc. executives during a training seminar October 10 in Chattanooga,
TN. During his speech, congressman Wamp recognized Astec founder and
CEO Dr. J. Don Brock as “one of our most outstanding citizens”,
effective at articulating the issues and a powerful advocate for global
competition.
Congressman Wamp spoke extensively on energy efficiency, a topic
related closely to his role on Energy and Water Subcommittee of the
House Appropriations Committee. Wamp strongly expressed his view that
U.S. global competitiveness depends on our nation’s effectiveness in
utilizing every energy source available, including alternative fuel
sources such as ethanol and biofuel.
Wamp also briefly discussed topics related to the next federal highway
bill set to begin October 1, 2009, including a need for increased
funding. He stressed the need to emphasize the positive safety
aspects, as well as reduced dependence on foreign oil through
increasing use of reclaimed asphalt pavement in road building and
maintenance.
