Yankton, S.D. – June 27, 2012 – Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI-JCI) has been recognized as a "Patriotic Employer" for its support of employee participation in America's National Guard and Reserve Force. The company, along with Traffic Manager Todd Rothenberger, was honored for its contributions to America's national security and protection of liberty and freedom by the South Dakota Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR) organization. Rothenberger and Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI-JCI) were nominated by Matthew Schmidt, an equipment operator in the company's yard department who is supervised by Rothenberger. Schmidt said he nominated Rothenberger and the company because he appreciates the support given to him when he's required to be away from his civilian job. "I know how hard it can be when you are down a man at work," Schmidt said. "Todd is really understanding of what I do. It makes me feel good to know that if I get deployed or have to be gone for an extended period of time, I'm going to be able to come back and my job is still going to be there. To have that kind of job security is amazing." This is the second time Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI-JCI) has been recognized as a Patriotic Employer by the South Dakota ESGR. The company employs 60 men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military. The ESGR is a Department of Defense organization that was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers. Rothenberger said the company has a "tried-and-true" past employment history with members of the National Guard, both in South Dakota and surrounding states. In addition to being appreciative of their service to the country, Rothenberger also recognizes the value of the skills employees bring from their military experience that benefit the company. "The teamwork aspect they bring to their employment here is an important value that adds to the core company philosophy," he said. "Our military members can count on manufacturers like Kolberg-Pioneer to provide quality employment, as well as support during their absence for their short-term and long-term commitments under military direction. I commend Matt Schmidt for his ability to find balance for his military requirements when needed and switch hats when it's time to work at Kolberg-Pioneer."
